Gorgoroth was founded in 1992 by guitarist Infernus after making a pact with the devil. In 1993, the band released their first demo, entitled A Sorcery Written in Blood. On January 7, 1994, Firda, the major newspaper in the county of Sogn og Fjordane where the band originated from, ran a cover story on the demo, with the headline "Local music with Satanic symbolism". According to the article, the release of the demo and flyers with Satanic symbols led to "concerned parents contacting the Sheriff's Office in Fjaler". After the demo was released, Gorgoroth signed a record deal with Embassy Productions and started work on their debut full-length Pentagram. When bassist Kjettar left the band in 1993, Samoth of Emperor joined Gorgoroth as their new bassist, and participated in the recording of the album. After Pentagram was completed and released in 1994, drummer Goat left the band and was replaced by Frost from Satyricon. The band performed their first concert at Lusa Lottes Pøbb in Oslo, Norway, on May 3, 1994, at a four-day Black Metal Nights festival with bands such as Dark Funeral (who also made their live debut), Dissection, Enslaved, Marduk (who played their first gig abroad), Gehenna and Hades Almighty.
This was followed by gigs with Enslaved in Bergen (in June and September) and in Haugesund (in November), and the band performed their first gig abroad in Annaberg-Buchholz in Germany on December 10, 1994. The same year, the band commenced the recording of Antichrist (originally titled Død), their second full-length album. The group is currently signed to Regain Records and have released eight full-length studio albums. A re-recording of their third album, Under the Sign of Hell, was released in 2011, and a new full-length album has been in the works since late 2009.

Carpathian Forest (previously known as "The Childmolesters", then Enthrone) emerged with the demo tape "Bloodlust and Perversion" in 1992. In 1993 the band released a second demo: "Journey Through the Cold Moors of Svarttjern". The following year, Forest signed to Avantgarde Music and recorded their first EP, "Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods" in 1995, followed by the debut album "Black Shining Leather" in 1998.
Carpathian Forest played their first concert in 1998 at the Quart Festival, Kristiansand Norway supporting Immortal and Satyricon. This saw the introduction of Vrangsinn. A short studio session followed, with Tchort and Kobro being made permanent members. The following EP was called "He's Turning Blue", followed by the albums "Strange Old Brew" and "Morbid Fascination of Death" - these were both recorded at the same time and were produced by Terje Refsnes at Sound Suite studio in Sandnes. Nordavind left the band after this studio session due to personal issues with Tchort being promoted to guitarist. Vrangsinn was promoted to bass, and Blood Pervertor to keyboard duties for following sessions and tours. 
With this lineup, the band recorded their fourth album, "Defending the Throne of Evil", released by Season of Mist. This album was the first to feature symphonic sounds, as witnessed with "It's Darker than You Think". The album was generally well-received.
The following year, Carpathian Forest made two releases - "We're Going to Hollywood for This", a live DVD, the title of which was a play on their compilation album "We're Going to Hell for This", and another compilation entitled "Skjend Hans Lik", which featured many new tracks, as well as some remastered ones from Bloodlust and Perversion.
The band's most recent release was in 2006, with "Fuck You All!!!!, an album which has similar structures to Black Shining Leather.
The band last played live at the Inferno Festival in 2009, and confirmed rumors that a new album was in the works.

Urgehal is a black metal band from Norway. It was formed in Hønefoss, 1992 by Nefas and Enzifer. Their musical style and sound resemble that of the Norwegian black metal bands that arose in the early 1990s. Urgehal are known for their extensive use of the traditional corpse paint and for Enzifer's striking on stage appearance, which incorporates facial spikes as well as traditional arm and body spikes.
Urgehal are scheduled to play at the Kick Off show for the Inferno Metal Festival 2011.

Ancient is a Norwegian black metal band from Eidsvåg, Nesset, formed in 1992. The band has released six full-length albums released by Metal Blade Records. Ancient used to have a raw black metal sound, similar to Darkthrone's works. Beginning with The Cainian Chronicle, they moved towards a more Nordic/atmospheric black metal sound, akin to Emperor. Darkthrone is a Norwegian black metal band. They formed in 1987 as a death metal band, but after embracing the black metal style in 1991, they became a driving force in the Norwegian black metal scene. For most of this period Darkthrone has consisted of just two musicians, Nocturno Culto and Fenriz, who have sought to remain outside the music mainstream. Since 2006, their work has incorporated more elements of traditional heavy metal, speed metal and punk rock.

Olve Eikemo  (born 27 June 1973, Bergen, Norway), better known by his stage name Abbath Doom Occulta, is a Norwegian composer, vocalist, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and one of the founding members of the black metal band Immortal. Before he founded Immortal, Abbath played bass for the early Norwegian extreme metal band Old Funeral, with future Immortal member Demonaz and Varg Vikernes of Burzum fame (though they were not all in the band at the same time). While working with Old Funeral, he also joined Demonaz's band Amputation which later became Immortal. He also plays bass in Demonaz's newly started project Demonaz.
Although he is primarily a guitarist, he is also proficient as a drummer, using techniques such as blast beats and double bass (as heard on the Immortal albums Pure Holocaust and Battles In The North) which are highly present in black metal.

Stian Thoresen (alias Shagrath) was born on November 18, 1976 in Jessheim, outside of Oslo, Norway.
Shagrath is one of the founding members of Dimmu Borgir, along with Silenoz and Tjodalv. Shagrath's change from playing guitar to vocals is a part of what changed the band's sound. His contributions extend into the use of keyboards, bass guitar, and drums; as can be heard on For All Tid. Since the departure of Mustis in 2009, Shagrath returned to the keyboards during the recording of Abrahadabra, but is once again only the vocalist with the addition of Gerlioz to the band's touring lineup.
Shagrath also played guitar and drums in Fimbulwinter until the band split up in 1994. Fimbulwinter released one album, Servants of Sorcery, through Hot Records in the year of 1994. Shagrath also played keyboards in another Norwegian black metal band called Ragnarok. Another unknown band was Starkness, a solo project of Shagrath. He is also the rhythm guitarist of the heavy metal band Chrome Division.
Shagrath also sports extensive tattoo work. This work includes the word Shagrath across his stomach, various arm tattoos which cover his arms as well as extend to his upper chest.
In August 2008, Shagrath announced his engagement to actress Christina Fulton.
In late 2009, Shagrath joined forces with King ov Hell (ex-bassist of Gorgoroth) and formed the band Ov Hell. In February 2010 the band released their first album entitled "The Underworld Regime".

Niklas Kvarforth is a multi-instrumentalist musician, best known as the founder, main composer and vocalist of the Swedish black metal band Shining. He was only twelve years old when he started the band. By the time Kvarforth was fourteen, Shining had released their first EP, 'Submit to Selfdestruction', on which he played guitar and bass. It was not until the band released their first album, 'Within Deep Dark Chambers', that Kvarforth became the band's vocalist.

Shining openly promotes suicide and self-harm in all its forms. Kvarforth has claimed, with contentment, that there have been some cases of people committing suicide at least partially under influence of Shining's music.

In 2004, Shining split-up but reformed later the same year with a new line-up capable of live shows. Since the their fourth album, 'The Eerie Cold', Shining has developed a more progressive sound by incorporating clean guitars, guitar solos, different vocal styles and tempo changes.

Kvarforth has caused a lot of controversy in his career, primarily with his violent stage antics. When performing with Shining, he has become known for self-harming onstage, e.g. cutting himself severely, burning himself. In July 2006 Kvarforth "disappeared" and it was presumed that he has committed suicide. The band was said to continue with a new singer named "Ghoul", as one of the wishes from Kvarforth. However, in February 2007, at Diezel in Halmstad, Sweden, "Ghoul" was revealed to be Kvarforth. The concert was violent in nature, sparking controversy in the Swedish media, with Kvarforth occasionally fighting the audience and the guest vocalists (Attila Csihar, Maniac and Nattefrost). Razorblades were handed to a member of the audience, and one person was kicked in the chest after grabbing Kvarforth's genitals; who was in turn exposed to numerous physical assaults by Maniac.

In March 2011, it was announced that Kvarforth would be quitting all other projects, with the exception of his side-band, Skitliv, in order to concentrate on Shining.

Varg Vikernes a.k.a. Count Grishnackh (born 11 February 1973) is a Norwegian black metal musician.
Vikernes was born near Bergen, Norway. In 1991, he founded the one-man music project Burzum, which quickly became popular within the early Norwegian black metal scene. In 1992, he joined the band Mayhem and adopted the stage name Count Grishnackh. Around this time he became affiliated with the Heathen Front and had several writings on Germanic neopaganism published. In Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, director Sam Dunn described Vikernes as "the most notorious metal musician of all time".
In 1994, Vikernes was convicted of the murder of his Mayhem bandmate Øystein Aarseth, known by his stage name Euronymous. Vikernes was further convicted of four counts of arson involving the burnings of historic churches, and was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Having served almost 16 years of his sentence, Vikernes was released on parole in early 2009.

Dani Filth (born Daniel Lloyd Davey, born 25 July 1973) is the lyricist, vocalist and founding member of the metal band Cradle of Filth. Filth was born to Susan Janet Moore and Lawrence John Davey in Hertford and is the oldest child of four. Dani has two sisters; Amanda (b. 1975) and Rachel (b. 1978); and an estranged brother, Dimitar (b.1981). He married his wife Toni, on 31 October 2005 in Ipswich. The two have a daughter, Luna Scarlett (b. 8 February 1999).

Jon Andreas Nödtveidt (28 June 1975 – 13 August 2006) was a lead guitarist and vocalist of the Swedish blackened death metal band Dissection, which he founded in 1989.
On the 16th of August 2006, he was found dead in his apartment in Hässelby, a suburb off Stockholm by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a circle of lit candles.
Early reports indicated that he was found with an open copy of the Satanic Bible, but these were later dismissed by Dissection's guitarist Set Teitan. According to him, "it's not any atheist, humanist and ego-worshiping 'Satanic Bible' by Anton LaVey that Jon had in front of him, but a Satanic Grimoire. He despised LaVey and 'The Church of Satan'."...
